Contemporary Prints from the V&A
An exhibition exploring the transition street art has made
from the painted wall to printmaking opens at Nottingham
Castle on Saturday 2 July. The exhibition will be supported
by an inspiring selection of satellite exhibitions, events,
talks and workshops around the city.
Drawn from the internationally renowned collection of prints from the Victoria and
Albert Museum (V&A), Street Art: Contemporary Prints from the V&A showcases
established and emerging street artists, both British and international, including
Banksy, D*Face, Eine, Miss Tic, Shepard Fairey and Swoon.
Nottingham Castle will host a series of events, talks, workshops and satellite exhibitions
exploring contemporary Street Art printing themes and styles to support the main exhibition.
This exhibition is organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London
Nottingham Castle has also invited three artists and collaborators
(Amy Blackwell, GING and Smallkid) to respond to the V&A touring exhibition to
create subtle illustrative, print based interventions throughout the unused spaces and
corridors in the Fine Art and Exhibition Galleries. Each artist will explore both paint
and print, through ‘paste-ups’ and digital techniques, by using the Castle building as
their base, placing their signature styles of character design to live amongst, and react
to, the buildings unique historic ornamental and architectural features and doorways.
Street Art – Talks, Tours & Workshops
Nottingham Castle is hosting a series of events, talks and workshops exploring contemporary Street Art printing themes and styles to support the main exhibition along with various screenings of street art films.

THE FESTIVAL TO BE AT THIS SUMMER – FREE ENTRY
Europe’s largest free urban paint festival; Upfest, is now in its fourth year and is preparing to take over its cultural home Bristol by welcoming over 250 artists and 40 DJs, Groups & Human Beatboxers to the event this summer between 4th and 5th June 2011.
‘The Urban Paint Festival’ is now firmly established as the main event for street art in Europe. The two day explosion of events attracts urban artists from all over the world who flock to The Tobacco Factory – the festival’s birthplace, as well as a number of locations across the city.
The festival helps raise funds and more importantly awareness for the Bristol based charity NACOA who work to address the problems children have growing up in families where one or both parents suffer from alcoholism. Upfest is a completely volunteer led festival and has so far raised £15,000 for the charity.

Glastonbury 2011: 25th,26th June: Oxygen Thievez have been let back on site again to produce some work for Bassline Circus, also while they are down there other bits of work will be popping up , before and during the festival, keep ya eyes peeled.

Kingsmill Hospital children’s wards

Kingsmill Hospital, Mansfield asked us to produce a set of murals for the new children’s ward that is part of the new hospital building, based on a Jungle and insect theme. Due to having to have all work completed for when the hospital opened it meant a lot of late nights to produce what turned out to be over 100 murals, various signs and window graphics.

This is a repeated pattern design that is cut into a stencil and them spray painted.
